Reinvent your style in 5 steps
By Chloe Nurik January 5
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right? No way, girls! When it comes to fashion, this statement couldn’t be further from the truth. As style chameleons Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez have shown us, it is essential to revamp your look once in a while.
This upcoming year, your resident fashionista is recommending the Fab Five…Five Fabulously Easy Steps for reinventing your style in 2012. This is the perfect time to try something new and capitalize on beautiful YOU!
Step One: Shop at a new store!
Even a stylish sista tends to shop the same stores again and again. Some of this is habit. Some of it comes from past success. However, changing things up a bit will pay off big time. The shops and boutiques that you had previously overlooked may hold hidden treasures. Be brave when exploring uncharted territory and give each item a fair chance to dazzle you! Exposure to new ideas will help you to revamp your style in a flash. Treat yourself to a fashion adventure that is fun and fresh.
Psstt…Have you heard of these awesome stores?
• Torrid
• PacificPlex
• Fashionbug
• Loop18
• Wet seal
Step Two: Say “yes” to a makeup demonstration at the mall!
These talented professionals will show you the latest styles and help you discover a look that is perfect for you! You only need a few new products to dramatically transform your look, so don’t worry about breaking the bank. Just pick 1 or 2 fave items and learn how to apply them properly. Make-up artists are usually willing to share tricks of the trade and will help you to start the New Year with a glow. BTW, don’t forget about updating your skin care routine. There is nothing more flattering than healthy skin.
Step Three: Expand your color palette and try clothes in a different hue
We all gravitate towards a certain part of the color spectrum when we choose clothing, but now is the time to push the envelope and experiment with something new. Trade pastels for light colors or a bold look for something softer. Don’t be bogged down by blue or blocked by brown. Glance at your wardrobe, see what colors you are lacking, and then splash them into your closet pronto. You don’t need to look like a walking rainbow but changing up your tones will change up your style!
Step Four: Get that haircut you’ve always wanted but were afraid to try
The same old hair style can get boring year after year, so it’s time to change it up! Be brave and beautiful, but steer clear of the bizarre. Classy bob? Check! A new color? Check! Bangs? You’re so there! Crazy Mohawk with twenty different colors? Maybe not the most flattering choice this year. Scour the fashion mags for some cool ideas. Bring a photo or two to your hair stylist. Then, let the magic begin!
Step Five: Style-Swap with a friend!
Raid each other’s closets and trade some items for a whole new look. Instead of being confined to your closet, step into someone else’s shoes (literally). And the bonus? This style reinvention is free! Plus, your friend will most likely have a more generous return policy than most stores. For a really rad idea, invite a couple of friends (who have good taste, of course) and hold a style swap party. It’s a win-win situation for style-crazy gals on a tight budget!
In order to avoid a style rut, it is essential to switch up your look. 2012 offers a great opportunity to make some simple, easy changes that will dramatically transform your appearance! As you ring in the New Year, remember the three “R’s” of our style mantra: Revamp, Revitalize, Refresh.
