Rock that Rad PLAID!
By Chloe Nurik December 6

One of the best parts about fashion is that it can express all the different parts of you! Plaid, a popular fall trend, can reveal both your inner wild child and your innocent side. Sassy, sweet, spunky: plaid can say it all. This look is mega versatile and can be pulled off in so many different ways. Oh, and did I mention that it is super flattering on curvy girls? Oh yeah.

To rock this look and be a plaid goddess this fall, just follow a few simple rules (and let your confidence shine through). Take it from this fashionista, jaws will drop when you bust out your plaid this fall!

Unsure of where to start? Here are a few of our Do’s:

Dark plaid is always better. Dark colors naturally slim and plaid is no exception! Plus, dark plaid will look super cute with dark wash jeans, which are a must have this fall! A plaid with a blue or black base is optimal. Bright plaids look flashy and won’t show you off – they are distracting instead of darling!

Match the color of your plaid with an adorable accessory or the bottom part of your outfit. This will pull your entire look together. Or pick up some plaid accessories to make this look more feminine and modern.

Keep in mind that a diagonal plaid is more flattering than a horizontal plaid. Vertical lines appear slimming and give the illusion of a thinner waist and slimmer hips. A perfect hourglass figure can be faked by wearing diagonal plaid with a snazzy cinched waist. Horizontal lines are not as flattering and should be avoided.

Try mixing plaid with tights or leggings this fall season. Dark tights and leggings compliment plaid and create an ooh-la-lah effect. Add high boots and a dark fedora to complete this chic autumn look. Now that’s high fashion!

Don’t overlook accessories. Plaid accessories are Über-cute and easy to wear. They’re so sweet, they’re like icing on the cake! They look great with black and can tie together almost any outfit, from casual to formal. Plaid shoes, earrings, headbands, and belts are dynamite choices this fall.

For every plaid “Do,” you’ll also find a plaid “Don’t.” Avoid these plaid catastrophes…

Don’t combine plaid with plaid! A little goes a long way with this look. Plus, too much plaid will leave you looking like you just put on a Halloween costume! A little plaid is classy but an entire plaid outfit is trashy. Make sure that all eyes are on you…for the right reasons!

Don’t wear other patterns with plaid! Plaid is a statement piece and speaks for itself. Pairing plaid with other patterns will weigh you down and mix up your look.

Don’t forget to choose the right plaid for you! Certain styles are more flattering on certain people, and to master the art of plaid, you must master the art of knowing your body type. A smashing hit for one style sista may be a total miss for another. If you are self-conscious or nervous about this trend, it is best to start with a plaid top rather than plaid bottoms. In fact, plaid tops are more flattering on curvy girls as plaid bottoms can sometimes look clown-ish or overdone. Work your way up to more complicated styles once you have this trend down pat!

So remember: plaid is a boss look to try this fall. You can mix it up, match it up, and play it up! Try accessories, dark plaids, and vertical patterns. The boys will be falling for you faster than the autumn leaves falling off the trees! Viva la Plaid!
