Hey there, Holiday Hottie!
By Chloe Nurik December 2

Tis’ the season to be merry…and MARVELOUS!

The month of December is a perfect time to show off your assets at parties and events. But beware: some popular holiday fashion trends flatter curvy girls while others simply won’t do the trick. Take it from this fashionasta, knowledge is power! So read up on these top holiday looks that will either get you kissed or leave you dissed under the mistletoe this year:

Holiday Do’s for the Curvy Girl

Here are some looks that are as hot as cocoa, as sweet as candy, and as naughty as they are nice:

A little black dress is every curvy girl’s secret weapon!

A little black dress is the most versatile item that you will ever own. Dress it up or dress it down! Wanna know the best part? A black dress never goes out of style, so go ahead and splurge on one this season. For curvy girls, the key to a black dress is to wear one that shows off your waist. Go for some detail that defines your waist such as a belt or flower. Work your inner Audrey Hepburn and rock this look with confidence!

Lace is a great option for curvy girls!

Black and white lace is ultra flattering and will give you that va-va-voom effect. A baby-doll or empire waist style in lace fabrics are the best options since they will show off your figure. But don’t overdo it by piling on the details (ribbons, bows, rhinestones, glitter, etc.) Remember: Sassy not sleezy!

Sequins are a girl’s best friend.

When wearing sequins, keep in mind that less is more. A cute sequin skirt should be paired with a simple shirt or vice versa. If you are sportin’ a glam sequin dress, try to keep the accessories minimalist. A small amount of sequins is fab, but too much is drab! Also, make sure that the item has sequins all throughout its pattern and not just in clumps, which appears to add pounds to any figure.
I love this skirt…but, would choose a different top – something with a solid color.

Velvet is tricky but can be done!

Velvet naturally clings so it is important to try a velvet garmet on in person before you buy. Choose a velvet dress that is lined in order to avoid wardrobe malfunctions and to help cover problem areas. Velvet dresses tend to work better than a velvet skirt or top, because they’re more forgiving in the trouble spots. I say “ho, ho, ho” to that!

Pearl and rhinestone jewelry adds a playful flair to every outfit!

This jewelry can play up a simple dress or a nice shirt with jeans and is a great go-to accessory for holiday parties. Plus, bedazzling jewelry will guide eyes off the areas you are insecure about. Beautiful and functional? Now that’s a holiday miracle!

Sparkly shoes are a must have for any curvy girl this holiday season!

Sparkly shoes make you look and feel simply enchanting. These stylish shoes can make any outfit pop and are the perfect finishing touch. You’ll sparkle more than the holiday trees themselves…

Holiday Don’ts for the Curvy Girl

Although these seem like fun and adorable ideas, they really won’t flatter your bod. So, avoid the following:

Red and green all over is a bad idea!

Although you may love the holiday season, not all of your clothes have to reflect your cheer. Avoid excessively mixing green and red or blue and white. Plus, combining bright colors may appear too flashy. Leave that for the ornaments, girl. Instead, mix one of these colors with a neutral for a truly flattering outfit that will show off your curves and the right amount of holiday cheer. And avoid holiday themed items….you will end up looking like Santa’s helper.

Animal sweaters should be avoided at all costs!

Animal sweaters will age you and won’t show off your figure. Instead, they will overwhelm you and will be the sole focus of your outfit. Buying your pets a sweater to wear on the holidays is totally fine but please don’t wear a sweater of your pet this holiday season!

Trust your gut (and our tips), and you will light up the room with some awesome holiday look. Search for that simple black dress, glittery shoes, and sparkly jewelry. Try lace and velvet to make your outfit interesting and festive. Avoid animal themed clothes and bright holiday colors. Think sexy, sophisticated, and smashing! This is the time to bring out your best and to glow from head to mistletoe.
