A swim suit for every body – Summer 2011
By May 18

Summer vacation is just around the corner, and we’re getting pumped for BBQs, baseball games, picnics, and, you guessed it…pool parties! Newsflash: feeling comfortable by the pool or at the beach is a lot easier when you’re rocking swimwear that flatters your figure. We’ve got tips for finding the best bathing suit for your body, plus a few of our favorite suits.

Best bathing suits for big boobs

What to look for:

Support and comfort are essential for big-chested ladies. Look for halter-tops and tankinis to hold the twins in place. One-piece suits with shelf bras or wider straps are also great choices.

What to avoid:

Stay away from bikini tops with little coverage and strapless bandeau tops to avoid potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.

Fitsmi’s picks:

Women’s Plus Back-Strap Halter Swimsuit, $44.50 at Old Navy; Xhilaration® Juniors Stripe/Floral Tankini Swim Top, $14.00 at Target; Blue and Red Tribal Underwire One Piece Swimsuit, $68.00 at Torrid.

What to look for:

When you’ve got junk in the trunk, coverage is key. Try a pair of boy shorts that completely cover your cheeks. Two-piece suits with a bright top/darker bottom combo draw attention away from your rump and balance out your figure.

What to avoid:

Bottoms with ruffles or belts add width to your bottom half, so it’s better to keep all frills on top.

Fitsmi’s picks:

Women’s Plus-Size Merona® Black Swim Shorts, $22.99 at Target; Women’s Mix & Match Boyshort Bottoms, $17.50 at Old Navy, with Women’s Mix & Match Knotted Halter Bikini Tops, $15.50 at Old Navy; Shine On Halter Boytini w/ Tummy Control, $64.90 at Avenue

Best bathing suits for your belly

What to look for:

Try a tummy-control one-piece to minimize your middle. If you’re a two-piece kinda gal, opt for a tankini with more coverage and enough wiggle room at the hips to be fun and flirty.

What to avoid:

Teeny bikinis expose your midriff, which can make you feel self-conscious, but that doesn’t mean you have to hide your figure. Experiment with prints and patterns to add oomph to your suit and camouflage your waist area.

Fitsmi’s picks:

Cross Back Tankini w/ Tummy Control, $49.90 at Avenue; Meadow Breeze Tankini w/ Tummy Control, $49.99 at Avenue; Women’s Plus Leopard-Print Halter Swimsuits, $49.50 at Old Navy
