Being a celeb doesn’t mean everyone thinks you’re great—especially if you’re Selena Gomez, who made more than a few enemies when her relationship with Justin Bieber went public. Sure, she’s dating a total heartthrob and has a whole staff of stylists to keep her looking her best, but even Selena feels down about herself sometimes. “There are moments every day when I feel insecure and not good enough.” Selena told E! Online in a recent interview. And who can blame her? It’s got to suck having thousands of girls you’ve never met hate your guts.

Despite the backlash from jealous Bieber fans, Selena is sending a positive message with her new single, Who Says, which empowers girls to feel confident and beautiful regardless of anyone else’s opinion.

“The message for me personally is that…I feel that girls my age tend to question themselves a lot,” Selena told E! Online, “They tend to dress and be what other people want them to be. I feel that everyone wants to follow the trends and what’s ‘cool’ and eventually, at the end of the day when you strip all of that down, are you really proud of yourself and comfortable in your skin?”

The song seems to be making a difference, at least for Selena. She told MTV, “Every time I sing this song, I’m like, “I feel better already!’”
