Size Doesn’t Matter
By Aly Walansky April 9

I was in the mall recently and stopped by one of my favorite stores. They use European sizing, and this usually means I have to try things on several sizes larger than what I’m used to wearing. No matter how often I tell myself it’s unreasonable, this always, always, always gets me down.

I try to remember that it is NOT the size that matters–it’s the fit. Too often, people–including me!–get attached to what size they wear. It’s important to understand that each manufacturer sizes their clothes differently. You may be a size 8 in one brand and a size 10 in another. Some brands use vanity sizing while others are cut small–and there are a whole lot of other reasons sizing is impossible to go by.

In the end, obsessing over fitting into a particular size won’t do you any good. What’s important is finding the size that fits you well. You want to find clothes that fit comfortably–nothing too clingy or too baggy.

Trust me, no one else cares what number is on that tag. Chances are, you’ll be the only one who ever sees that number. But if it really bugs you–just cut out the tag. Problem solved.
