Having A Bad Day?
By Fitsmi December 11

Ever have one of those days when you’re in a funk? Maybe it’s because of a fight with your best friend, a bad grade on a test you really studied for, or a classic case of PMS (hormones totally suck). Sometimes there isn’t much you can do to avoid a bad day, but we recently read an article about how to have a good bad day.

Gretchen Rubin is a blogger and author who writes about seeking happiness on a daily basis (who doesn’t want to feel happy everyday, right?). On Yahoo! Shine, she blogged some tips for turning a bad day into a better one. We really like these ideas:

Do something nice for someone else. When you’re having a bad day it’s easy to say or think things like, “This isn’t fair!” and “My life sucks.” But how would you feel if you took the focus off yourself and thought about making someone else happy? It might sound backwards, but according to Gretchen’s Four Splendid Truths, “one of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy.”

Exercise. “For me, exercise is a key element to managing my moods.” Gretchen says, “It calms me and energizes me at the same time. Its rituals are comforting. It’s productive but not intellectually or socially demanding. Also, exercise is so obviously a key to good health that if I manage to exercise, I feel like I’m doing something worthwhile in my day, no matter what else happens.”

Connect with someone important to you. Whether it’s your best friend, your sister, or your Mom, having someone listen while you vent can be really therapeutic. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to someone you know about your problem, there’s a whole community of girls like you on Fitsmi (and they’re only a friend request away!)

Go to sleep early. “It’s true, everything does look better in the morning.” says Gretchen. We agree. Tomorrow’s a new day, right?

How do you cheer up do when you’re having a bad day?
