She Did It!: Tyler Todd
By October 19

Fifteen-year-old Tyler Todd went to weight loss camp in the summer of 2009. She lost 28 pounds and, thanks to the healthy changes she’s made in her life, she’s kept off the weight. We chatted with Tyler to find out how she stays on track. Check out her tips!

What was the number one change you made in your life?
Changing my eating habits so I could have a better lifestyle .

What was the biggest challenge?
Trying not to get sidetracked from my main goal.

How did you deal with it?
By thinking about my future and remembering that I don’t just affect my lifestyle–I was affecting everyone around me.

What’s your favorite recipe?
Stuffed mushrooms! They provide protein and are a great energy source.

What do you wish other girls knew about healthy eating?
I wish that they knew that healthy eating could change the way they act, the way they present themselves, and can improve their confidence.

How can other girls make changes?
Getting educated about how healthy eating could better them is a good first step.

If there is one thing you’d like to change, what would it be?
I wish I would have changed my eating habits earlier and educated myself more.

How could parents or other adults help teens like you get healthier?
Educate teenagers on the dangers of not eating healthy and the benefits of eating healthier.

How do you stay motivated?
I think about how my habits affect everyone around me and the way I feel after eating healthy instead of unhealthy. And I also think about my future and how I want my kids and grandkids to be healthy.

How did you celebrate your success?
I celebrated by finding out more creative ways to eat healthier!

What can you do now that you couldn’t do when you were overweight?
I have a certain confidence about myself. I can also be more active in any activity that I want to participate in.

What would you say to a girl who doesn’t think she can do it?
I would tell her to believe in herself. The mind commands and the body follows.
