Hear It From The Bronx!
By June 7

Last month, Fitsmi traveled to Mott Haven Village Prep High School in Bronx, New York in search of some good advice from real teens on dealing with some difficult situations posted by Fitsmi members. The girls there had some great ideas–and so did the guys! We hope you’ll enjoy them and share your own tips in the comments.

Mott Haven Village Prep girls From the girls…

A Fitsmi member posts, “Help!! whenever i come home from school i always eat and it’s always a lot of food. when ever i’m bored i eat so what can i do to distract myself? and what do you guys do?”

  • Keep yourself busy with after-school activities.
  • Make sure your parents don’t buy a lot of junk food.

“Help, I’m having a REALLY bad day.”

  • Talk about your problem so you can see it through someone else’s eyes. Afterwards, you will feel better.
  • If you have to cry, let it OUT!
  • Buy yourself some flowers :-)

“Who taught mothers how to nag? Feels like all my mom does is bother me about my weight, my room, my friends, my clothes, etc… Sometimes it feels so endless.”

  • Try to sit down with your mom and talk.
  • Talk to girls who are going through your same situation.
  • Write a list of what you need to do, so your mom doesn’t have to nag you so much.
  • Listen to inspiring music.

From the guys…

“I’m trying to eat more healthy but Mom keeps buying junk food. When I’m hungry at home, it’s hard not to eat it.”

  • Try to go food shopping with your mother.
  • Buy your own food.
  • Make a grocery list to give your mom.
  • Sit down and tell your Mom how you feel.
  • Control your portion sizes.
  • Work out!
