Straight Up from Shelby
By May 20

11th and 12th grade girls Earlier this month, Fitsmi flew down to Shelby, Mississippi to meet with the girls of Broad Street High School, who took time out of their busy schedules to share some tips for common problems teen girls have shared on Fitsmi. We hope they spark some good ideas for you.

For girls who worry all the time, “Do I look FAT in this?:

  • “Dare to be different. Be full of confidence so you don’t let negative comments bother you.”
  • “You are beautiful in your own way.”

A girl on Fitsmi says, “Absolutely no one likes me and it’s because I’m fat. What do I do?

  • “In order for people to accept you, you first have to accept yourself. If the people you are trying to fit in with don’t like you the way you are, they don’t deserve to be your friend. Find someone who accepts you for who you are, and everything can and will fall into place.”

A girl on Fitsmi writes: “I feel really self-conscious when I exercise and I’m too embarrassed to have others see me move.

  • “Try to find a time alone, when you can walk alone.”
  • “Listen to music on your headphones, so that you can tune people out.”
  • “Buy gym equipment for your home.”
  • “Be comfortable in your own body and shake off the comments of others.”
  • “Look confident and comfortable! If you feel confident about yourself, then others will look at you the same. It’s your body. You live in it. Embrace it!”
  • “Write down a list of things you love about yourself.”
  • “Take their comments as compliments!”
  • “Exercise with a best friend whom you can trust.”

What would you say to a girl who’s having a really bad day?

  • “Think of something exciting you’re going to do today or tomorrow.”
  • “Pray that things get better.”
  • “Go to a quiet place and think.”
  • “Remember that life is not easy and make the best of it every day.”
  • “Talk to a real close friend.”
  • “Do a fun activity that will boost your energy.”
  • “Listen to some crunk music!”

9th and 10th grade girls

Help!! whenever i come home from school i always eat and it’s always a lot of food. when ever i’m bored i eat so what can i do to distract myself? and what do you guys do?

  • “Set aside a portion of whatever you want to eat and don’t eat more than that.”
  • “If you’re bored and stressed out, you should call a friend up and ask her to hang out.”
  • “Eat breakfast before you leave home.”
  • “Write to express your feelings, or do your favorite hobby; walk around the block; go to the park; do yoga or play on the Wii!”
