So, it’s time to get to know each other a little better. My name’s Shelly and I’m going to try and be your guide to navigating the world of food and nutrition. Makes us sound like spelunking cave explorers, huh?
So what exactly do I DO? Well, I’m a food and nutrition professional, which means that I basically get paid to think about my first love–FOOD. I go to supermarkets for fun and get excited when I see food ANYWHERE. (Hey, don’t judge, we all have our quirks.)
I love food so much that I became a registered dietitian (RD) and have a diploma from culinary school.
So, why blog on this site? When I was a teenager, I was so confused about what to eat and how to stay fit. I used to believe that eating a box of low-fat cookies was healthy, that fat was the devil, and that doing 100 sit-ups a day would give me abs of steel. Back then I didn’t have anybody to tell me the messages on TV and magazines were usually half-truths or just plain wrong. Now there are even more conflicting messages out there.
I think everyone deserves straight-up, honest answers about food and nutrition. That’s why I’m here.
Some other tidbits about me: I live in Brooklyn, ran a marathon, love challah bread (holla!), live with three black cats, and try (yes, try) to eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables everyday.
Okay, your turn. Tell me something about you! Like, what’s your favorite food?
