Superbowl Snacks (With Healthy Makeovers)
By February 4

What word starts with in S and goes hand in hand with Superbowl Sunday? (“Shouting” is a valid answer, but it’s not what we’re going for.)

…Snacking!

Munching on snacks while you watch the big game is part of the fun, but you don’t need to nibble on the unhealthy stuff just because it’s around. We found some healthier alternatives you can bring along to a party, serve at your own get-together, or snack on by yourself if you’re watching the game solo:

Smoky Chicken Fingers With Honey Mustard Dip: Baking these chicken strips keeps the fat low, but the seasoning and bread crumbs create a faux-fried texture. Get the recipe.

Hummus: Serve with veggie sticks or toasted whole wheat pita bread. It’s high in protein and flavor. Get the recipe.

Nonfat Yogurt Dill Dip With Veggies: Replace ranch dip with this creamy yogurt dip instead. Because it’s made from nonfat Greek yogurt, it’s tangy and full of protein too. Add a little cayenne for an extra kick. Get the recipe.

Fudgy Chocolate Brownies: Unsweetened cocoa keeps the fat content low on these decadent brownies. Get the recipe.

Nachos Grande with Pickled Jalapeno Salsa: This recipe substitutes low-fat ground turkey and black beans but still explodes with festive Mexican flavors. The pickled jalapeno salsa is terrific–and your guests will never know they’re getting their veggies.

Hot “Wings” with Spicy Sauce: One medium deep-fried Buffalo wing can have as many as 80 calories, and nobody eats just one. Plus, those are greasy. These skinless tenders are a sensible alternative.

What will you be snacking on this Sunday?
