Dear Appetite, Please Stop Nagging Me!
By May 26

What the heck?! It’s only second period and you’re stomach is already growling. Clearly, that piece of toast with grape jelly this morning wasn’t enough to keep your hunger at bay until lunch. Ugh. If only there were foods that could keep you full longer…

Guess what, girl? There are!

AOL Health dishes about foods that can curb an overactive appetite. Turns out, there are more than a few tasty treats that keep our bellies full long past the dreaded 10:00 am snack-attack. Here are just a few of our faves:

  • Whole grain oatmeal (not instant): “Oatmeal is high in both soluble and insoluble fiber, so you’ll be less inclined to be munching throughout the day,” says Katherine Brooking R.D., spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. She also suggests adding a soluble fiber fruit like sliced apple to your bowl to help kick cravings.
  • Broth-based soups: According to AOL Health, “Research has shown that people who eat a low-calorie bowl of soup before their main entrée consume up to 20 percent fewer calories during the main course. The reason: The stomach sends satiety signals earlier in the digestive process.” Next time you’re out to dinner, why not skip the fried mozzarella and opt for a steaming bowl of delicious soup?
  • Dark chocolate: “If registered dietitians had prescription pads, I’d be doling out regular doses of dark chocolate to all my clients,” Cynthia Sass, R.D. says, “Not only is it loaded with antioxidants and natural substances that protect your heart, boost circulation and lower blood sugar, but research shows it can also help you feel more satisfied.”
Do you usually feel hungry, even when you’ve just eaten?
